Rangiora A&P Show Once Again Brought Town and Country Together

21 October 2012

A&P shows throughout the country bring country and town together and the Northern A&P Association’s Rangiora Show is a very good example. It helps to remind everyone of the economic interdependence of our towns with the rural economy – and that what is good for the country is good for the towns, and vice versa.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get away from the earthquakes, with the  grandstand off-limits because it has been assessed as earthquake-prone.

And after some ominous weather forecasts earlier in the week, the Show once again happened under a sunny sky on a warm day!

A District Facility with Loads of Potential

The Northern A & P Association owns the showgrounds in the north-east of Rangiora.  Since 1866, Shows have been held here, only interrupted by World Wars.

The Association is looking at ways their land can be better utilised and to this end have developed a strategic plan to increase the variety of activities able to take place there.

The showgrounds are well known, of course, not only for the Shows but also as a rugby ground and the location of events such as traction engine rallies and the annual muscle-car show.

The showgrounds are a great asset for the Waimakariri District with a huge potential to generate visitors and to provide a focus for the community.
